The Federal Capital Territory Executive Council, presided over by the minister, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday approved the rehabilitation of long-neglected internal roads inside the Presidential Villa — over three decades after their initial construction.

It ratified an emergency resurfacing project completed by Julius Berger Plc. Briefing reporters afterwards, FCDA Executive Secretary, Yunana Dauda, highlighted the roads’ dire state: “These roads have been in continuous use for over three decades and had developed extensive surface cracks, making resurfacing inevitable to extend their lifespan and ensure safety within the seat of power.”

Dauda noted that the project followed procurement rules, with the council also greenlighting the Kabusa–Ketti Road reconstruction.

Awarded in late 2024 and commissioned in June 2025, it tackled a security hotspot marred by crime, at a final cost of ₦9.8 billion. “The road had become a security risk due to its poor condition and associated criminal activities,” he added.

Other approvals included an emergency ₦1.7 billion contract to SCC Nigeria Limited for erosion control and repairs on vital water pipelines from Lower Usuma Dam. “Erosion exposed the pipelines and chambers, threatening a total collapse of water supply to the city,” Dauda explained. “The FCT Water Board requested FCDA intervention, and the Honourable Minister directed immediate action. The pipelines are now fully restored, erosion controlled, and leakages repaired.”

Education got a boost too, with Mandate Secretary, Dr Danlami Hayyo, announcing a ₦62 million contract for facility management at the Korea Model School — a high-tech facility built in 2018 via a Korean–UBEC partnership and handed to the FCT Administration in 2019. The council also okayed memos to enhance service delivery and revenue in the territory.
