Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive inspection of critical infrastructure projects, reaffirming timelines for completion ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s second anniversary in May.
The sites visited according to a statement issued by Director of Press, Anthony Ogunleye, included the International Conference Centre (ICC) rehabilitation, Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) interchanges, and access roads to the Judges Quarters in Katampe District.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, particularly at the ICC, where contractor Julius Berger has pledged a May handover. He emphasized the facility’s economic potential, stating: “What we’re trying to do now is that it’s no longer going to be business as usual. When we finish the rehabilitation, we are going to have a maintenance contract with Julius Berger where we will pay them and they will be maintaining the place”.
For the Wole Soyinka Way interchanges, contractor Gilmor Nig assured completion by May, while CGC confirmed readiness for the Judges Quarters access roads. Wike also announced plans to commission satellite town road projects in Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Bwari Area Councils.
The Minister confirmed reliance on the extended 2024 budget (valid until June) and the submitted 2025 budget, which he expects President Tinubu to forward to the National Assembly shortly. “I have sent our 2025 budget as approved by the FCT Executive Committee… by the time the 2025 budget is passed, we know that we won’t have problems of funding”.
Acknowledging Tinubu’s role, Wike said: “Indeed I am very happy and I thank Mr. President for the support given to us and the encouragement for us to achieve this. It’s not easy”.
Wike praised residents for facilitating uninterrupted work, citing compensation payments to affected communities in Wasa, Life Camp, and Gishiri. Contractors Julius Berger and CGC were commended for their expertise and adherence to deadlines.
The FCT Administration remains focused on delivering these projects as part of broader efforts to enhance Abuja’s infrastructure and aesthetic appeal.
