Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has expressed resentment over the indifference of the southeast and south/south presidential aspirants towards the insecurity challenges in the southeast, even as it commended Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike on his bold step to tackle insecurity in Rivers State
In a statement signed by the Secretary General Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isigwuzoro, it says if the South East is unable to find solutions to insecurity problems, it could affect their chances of producing president in 2023.
” They should be aware of the fact that if they can’t find solutions to the southeast insecurity as soon as possible, Nigerians will not entrust the region with the opportunity to be president of the country in 2023. “They are advised to show concern over the southeast insecurity and secessionist campaigns and address it squarely.
” Its apparent that most Igbo presidential aspirants are tactically avoiding issues of southeast insecurity and Biafra agitation in their campaign tours across the country, which has automatically disqualified them in the first place of not being prepared to proffer solutions to the menaces threatening the corporate governance and national unity of the country”.
Governor Nyesom Wike’s bravery and courage to identify with the justifications for the advent of IPOB agitation based on the obvious marginalization of the southeast has endeared him to Nigerians and whatever else that has happened in the past will be forgiven.
” Ohanaeze insists that it’s time for leniency and healing process over the past including Obigbo/Oyigbo occurrence, but there should be compensation for all bereaved families and communities, as well as unconditional release of all agitators and other prisoners of conscience, incarcerated in Port Harcourt Prisons, whose offenses were only wearing of Biafran identity cards and regalias in Rivers state”.
” Governor Wike has endeared himself to Ndigbo and Nigerians, this is the type of person who deserves to be President of Nigeria in 2023.”
