Why we are celebrating Omooroyo Day in Ososa – Oba Alatishe

Following the successful debut of the Ososa Omooroyo Day festival in 2023, the Ososa Traditional Council, Ososa United Society, and the entire community of Ososa in Odogbolu Local Government Area , Ogun State are set to host the second edition from Monday, November 25th to Sunday, December 1st, 2024. 

 

This year’s theme is: “Create Hope… In Yourself, Community, and World.”

 

The Gbegande of Ososa, Oba Mojeed Adetoye Alatishe, expressed that the success of the inaugural edition and its positive outcomes serve as proof that the Ososa Omooroyo Day has become an established cultural event.

 

He emphasized that the festival has firmly found its place on the cultural calendar.

 

Speaking at a press briefing held at the Chief Hubert Ogunde Hall, Oba Gbegande Palace, Ososa, the royal father commended the dedication of Chief Abayomi Adewunmi, Chairman of the 2024 Ososa Omooroyo Day Planning Committee, and Secretary Mr. Ayodele Idowu for their commitment to placing Ososa on the global tourism map.

 

Oba Alatishe reaffirmed his dedication to preserving the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Ososa Kingdom.

 

The press briefing marked the official start of a week-long celebration honoring Ososa’s cultural legacy.

 

The royal father explained that the festival aims to foster unity, peace, and cultural awareness among the people of Ososa and neighboring communities.

 

He expressed gratitude to all sons and daughters of Ososa for their unwavering support, which made the first edition of the festival a success. This year’s celebration promises to be even more spectacular, featuring a wide array of activities such as cultural performances, traditional dances, and exhibitions of local arts and crafts.

 

“We are committed to preserving our cultural heritage and promoting peaceful coexistence among our people,” Oba Alatishe stated. “The Ososa Omooroyo Day is a testament to our resolve to keep our traditions alive and ensure they are passed down to future generations.”

 

Chief Abayomi Adewunmi, Chairman of the planning committee, expressed pride in the achievements of the 2023 edition and highlighted the impact of funds raised during the festival, which were used to improve local infrastructure, including the sinking of new boreholes and renovation of existing ones.

 

Adewunmi assured that this year’s celebration would be a thrilling and memorable experience for all, with something for everyone to enjoy. He also praised the Gbegande of Ososa for his leadership, vision, and commitment to the development and progress of the kingdom.

 

“His leadership has played a crucial role in promoting peace, unity, and cultural awareness in Ososa,” Adewunmi said. “The Omooroyo Day celebration is a prime example of Oba Alatishe’s dedication to preserving our cultural heritage.”

 

Otunba Adeniyi Adeneye, Vice Chairman of the planning committee, also spoke at the event in Ijebu dialect. He outlined the exciting range of activities scheduled for the festival, including a Medical Outreach and health talks, an inter-club football competition, the Ososa beauty pageant, inter-school debates, and an Ikokore night showcasing Ososa’s culinary traditions.

 

Secretary-General Ayodele Idowu expressed his joy at the festival’s continued success. He reflected on the history of Ososa Day, an ancient festival that had been dormant for nearly 30 years, and rejoiced that with the support of Oba Alatishe, Chief Adewunmi, and the committee, the festival is set to place Ososa firmly on the global tourism map.
