Assistant Inspector General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department [FCID], Alagbon Annex, Lagos, Mrs. Margaret Agebe Ochalla, has said FCID has taken policing beyond investigation and enforcement. She told the Inspector General of Police (IGP) conference in Abuja:
“We have embarked on compassionate humanitarian outreach by donating essential gift items to patients and settling outstanding medical bills in two major health facilities in Lagos. On January 9, 2026, we visited the Federal Medical Centre [FMC], Yaba and the Island Maternity Hospital Lagos.
“The initiative was designed to identify with patients receiving treatment, particularly those facing financial hardship and to demonstrate the human side of policing. We interacted with patients and hospital staff offering words of encouragement and reassurance to those undergoing medical care.
“We donated essential gifts items to patients as part of efforts to ease their stay in the hospital. We also settled outstanding medical bills for indigent patients who had been struggling to pay for their treatments.
“The Nigeria Police has a responsibility that goes beyond crime control and investigation. True policing is rooted in humanity, compassion and service to the people. The law enforcement officers must consistently seek opportunity to improve the welfare of the communities they serve.
