West Ham, Forest begin talks for Awoniyi

West Ham and Nottingham Forest have begun discussions regarding a potential transfer for Super Eagles forward, Taiwo Awoniyi.

With Graham Potter in need of a striker due to the unavailability of Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, and Niclas Fullkrug, the interest in Awoniyi appears to be persistent.

West Ham urgently requires a new striker, and Awoniyi seems to be the player the team has set their sights on.

According to Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sports Germany, negotiations are currently underway between the two clubs to facilitate Awoniyi’s move to the London Stadium.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Forest would not be willing to let the Nigerian go. However, developments seem to have taken a turn, prompting both clubs to engage in talks this month.

Awoniyi joined Forest for £17.5 million from Union Berlin and was the club’s first signing after their promotion to the Premier League in the summer of 2022.

During the 2022/23 season, despite suffering a groin injury that limited his appearances, he managed to score 11 goals in the Premier League, playing a key role in keeping the team in the top flight.

This season, however, has been challenging for him, as he has struggled for playing time. With Wood in good form, Awoniyi has only managed to find the net once this season. While moving Awoniyi on might seem feasible given his current performance, Forest must consider securing a replacement. With Wood now 33 years old, the club cannot afford to risk his injury and enter matches without a recognized striker.
