We’re putting in place robust operational strategy to counter security threats, says Chief of Naval Staff

The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogala, has stated that the Navy is putting in place a long-term plan and robust strategy to effectively conduct both regular and Irregular operations to counter security threats.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Naval Warfare Course 7 in Calabar on Wednesday, Ogala disclosed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria is currently actively engaged in various operations across the six geopolitical zones of the country to curb the various security challenges.

He said the present security threats in Nigeria are a global phenomenon and not peculiar to the country alone, adding that the challenges are characterised by the increased inimical actions of some state and non-state actors to destabilise sovereign states.

He stressed the need to put in place a long-term plan and robust strategy to be able to effectively conduct both regular and Irregular operations to counter the threats.

According to him, “the Armed Forces is combating insurgency in the North-East, banditry and kidnappings in the North West as well as secessionist agitations In the South East.

“It must be noted that some other sectional agitators have also attempted to propagate divisive narratives, but the Armed Forces of Nigeria has remained resolute in its responsibility of securing the nation’s territorial integrity.

“I must salute the efforts of the Armed Forces for their significant contributions towards enhancing national security both In the nation’s maritime domain and hinterlands.

He tasked the graduates to be alive be responsible and develop a strategy that would help proffer solutions to the challenges of insecurity in the country.

Speaking earlier, the Commander of the Naval War College, Rear Admiral Mustapha Hassa, said the Warfare Course 7 produced 22 graduands, including a Captain from the Cameroonian Navy.

Hassan added that War Course 7 produced l graduands including 17 Naval officers of Commander rank, two Lieutenant Colonels of the Nigerian Army, two Wing Commanders of the Nigerian Air Force and nine officers from the Republic of Cameroon Navy.

Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr Peter Odey, promised continual support for the Navy.

The Naval War College Nigeria was established in 2017 and is conceptualised to bridge command, leadership and management gaps in the Naval officers’ career progression.

The College is one of the military training institutions with a vision to be a centre of excellence in naval/Joint military operations and maritime security studies in the sub-region.
