Commissioner of Police, Ondo State, Mr. Lawal Adebowale, has said that 28 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists have bee stolen vehicle rescued seven victims rescued. He spoke at the Inspector General of Police (IGP) conference in Abuja:
“My vision is to ensure efficient and effective personnel who are professional and respect the fundamental human rights of the citizens. Our operatives now leverage on forensic tools, red-time surveillance digital tracking and coordinated data analysis to proactively detect, disrupt and dismantle criminal network operating within and beyond the state.
“The inter-agency cooperation and public support led to a member of successes in tackling crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, sexual violence, vehicle theft and ritual killing. The command remains resolute in its mission to ensure the protection of life and maintain law and order.
“We have intensified operations through a multi-dimensional approach anchored on intelligence-led policing, community collaboration and the strategic deployment of technology. Our aim is to assess the operational effectiveness of the units, identify challenges and implement effective solution.
“We have improved our relationship with members of the public. The command has put in place adequate security arrangement in liaison with other security agencies to protect life and property.
“Members of the public should be vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest security agency. We will continued to intensify efforts in combating crimes through proactive policing, intelligence gathering and swift response to distress calls.
“I have warned officers to shun corruption and illegal duties. They should cultivate good relationship with the public. Officers should dress decently and be hardworking. We are here to serve the public. My door is open to receive complaints and vital information from the public. It is my commitment to build a more effective and accountable police force that enjoys the trust and confidence of Nigerians.
It will be too hard for hoodlums to carry out operation and terrorise innocent citizens. I have visited some black spots including Akure-Ore Expressway, Akure-Owo Expressway and Akure-IIesa Expressway. The command carried out massive raids on hideouts especially on Akure-Owo Expressway. Police arrested suspected armed robbers in Akure and Owo axis. We raided hideouts in Akure and recovered some dangerous weapons.
“Depuy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Oluseyi Okenla, has been coordinating Tactical Team, area commands, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Anti-Cultism Squad and Tactical Intelligence Response Squad. We have stepped up surveillance and patrols to deter crime and maintain order.
“The Special Operation Squad rescued an abducted 17-year-old student of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology [OAUSTECH]. Four suspected members of Ogboni cult were arrested. Police in Owo Division arrested suspected cult member of Eiye Confraternity. Operatives on patrol recovered a vehicle Toyota Highlander suspected to have been used for car theft and arrested a suspect. Police Special Weapons and Tactics [SWAT] arrested eight suspects who specialised in stealing vehicles.
“Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested suspected kidnappers, rapists and two suspected students of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, Akoko. We recovered Lexus RS 350 vehicle belonging to the victims. Operatives arrested a wanted cult member of a proscribed confraternity in his hideout in IIe-Oluji. He was involved in murder, assault, and cult rivalry clashes.
“We want to appreciate the state government in supporting us with operational vehicles with other sister agencies to smoke out the hoodlums out of the state. I have warned officers to shun corruption and illegal duties. Anyone caught will face the police Act.
“IGP Olukayode Egbetokun’s vision is to fight crimes and criminality, uphold justice, fairness, protect human dignity and restore standards and values. We will engage in robust and effective human and technical intelligence gathering process to enhance the capacity of personnel. “We need the support of Obas, community leaders, students and stakeholders to give us useful information. We are working with our sister agencies to flush hoodlums out of the state.”
