A former Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State, Abubakar Bawa Kalgo, has said he and other party leaders are already considering their next political move following their planned exit from the party.
Kalgo, who recently resigned from the PDP, disclosed that discussions are ongoing among members of the state executive committee on a new platform to continue their opposition role against the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We will look for a formidable platform through which we can continue to oppose the APC-led administration,” he said.
He explained that the decision to leave the PDP was a collective one, involving the entire party structure in Kebbi State, from top officials to grassroots members.
“All the party executives, from the chairman downward, are resigning. We have agreed to move together,” he stated.

According to him, the move followed what party leaders described as troubling developments within the PDP, including concerns that the party had lost its direction and could no longer function as a credible opposition.
Kalgo also alleged that the situation worsened after recent internal developments at the national level, which, he claimed, showed alignment with the ruling party.
“I can assure you that after the convention, the state executive committee unanimously agreed to leave the party because we discovered that the party had already been sold,” he said.
“We were shocked when Wike openly endorsed President Tinubu. Initially, we thought it was his personal position, but we later discovered that many of those elected at the convention shared the same alignment,” he added.
He maintained that remaining in the PDP under such circumstances would undermine the principles of opposition politics, stressing that a viable alternative platform is necessary to strengthen democracy and provide Nigerians with a credible choice.
“The opposition party can not support the ruling party,” he said. “As members of an opposition party, we can not be working for or aligning with the ruling party. That defeats the whole essence of democracy.”
