From Emmanuel Uzor, Abakaliki
Barely 24 hours after former governor, Chief Martin Elechi, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi State Council of Elders pointedly told him they will not miss his company.
Addressing a press conference in Abakaliki, Chairman of the council, Frank Ogbuewu said the former governor left the party long time ago, after his bid to allegedly foist his successor on the state, on the platform of Labour Party, in the 2015 general election.
Ogbuewu said the former governor had never supported the party, especially after losing grip of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP )structure in the last election.
“We are here to tell you that Elechi has never been with the party.
“He left PDP long time ago when he supported the Labour Party candidate. So, the reasons he gave for defecting to APC are pure lies.”
They, however, accused the former governor of allegedly sabotaging the creation of the state and called on Governor David Umahi to make public, the state of Ebonyi State accounts when he took over and the alleged fraud and rot in the state, before his emergence.
“We, elders of the state, are calling Elechi to make available, within two weeks the financial records at his disposal, during his two terms in office and warn him to desist from lies which he is using to deceive the people.”
Also former member of the House of Representatives, who represented Ezza South /Ikwo Federal Constituency in the state, Chief Ugo Chima said elders of the state were warning “Elechi to stop deceiving people.”
Chima said politically, the former governor is not a threat, and added that he could not stop the emergence of Umahi in 2015 as a sitting governor and could not have become a threat to the incumbent governor.
