Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has ordered an investigation into allegations surrounding the disappearance and alleged sale of items donated to Umaisha General Hospital in Toto Local Government Area of the state.
The governor also directed that any hospital staff found culpable should be dismissed and prosecuted.
Sule gave the directive on Wednesday during the swearing-in of eight commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries and board members at the Aliyu Akwe-Doma Banquet Hall, Government House, Lafia.
He instructed the Commissioner for Health to investigate the matter and submit a report before the end of the week.
The development followed a viral video showing Sa’ad Abdullahi, a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing Umaisha/Ugya Constituency, questioning hospital officials over items he donated to the facility.
The donation comprised **50 orthopaedic mattresses, 50 ceiling fans and 40 standing fans**, which the lawmaker said were purchased with his personal funds to improve healthcare services in his constituency.
Reacting to the allegation, Sule said he had directed the Health Commissioner to investigate the matter and take action against any official found responsible.
“I have already asked the Honourable Commissioner for Health to investigate, to dismiss and fire the hell out of them, and after that, to prosecute them,” the governor said.
Sule maintained that dismissal would not be sufficient punishment if the investigation established wrongdoing, insisting that those responsible must also face legal proceedings.
“Firing them to go free will not give us peace of mind until we prosecute them for this inhuman attitude of theirs. We cannot tolerate that,” he said.
The governor further directed the Head of Service and Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission to ensure that appropriate disciplinary and legal measures were taken against any officials found culpable.
The controversy began after a video circulated on social media showing Abdullahi inspecting the hospital and demanding explanations from staff about the donated items.
During the visit, the lawmaker questioned officials about the whereabouts of the mattresses and fans. He also expressed concern about the condition of patients at the facility.
In the video, Abdullahi disputed the identity of a mattress presented to him by a hospital staff member and sought an account of the donated equipment.
A hospital staff member subsequently explained that about seven of the 50 mattresses had been temporarily given to discharged patients, with arrangements reportedly made for their return.
The state government’s investigation is expected to establish the whereabouts and use of the donated items and determine whether any hospital official should face disciplinary or criminal action.
