Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has commended security agencies for securing the release of 20 prospective corps members who were abducted while travelling along the Onitsha-Owerri Road.
Uzodimma praised the agencies for their coordination and professionalism, saying their intervention ensured that all 20 victims were released unharmed.
The governor also acknowledged the roles played by the Imo and Oyo State governments in facilitating the release of the abducted prospective corps members.
In a statement personally signed by him, Uzodimma said the sensitive nature of the incident required authorities to limit information in the public domain while efforts were underway to secure the victims.
He expressed appreciation for what he described as the “discreet and collaborative manner” in which the security agencies handled the operation.
According to the governor, the priority throughout the period was to ensure the safe return of the victims without exposing the operation to unnecessary risks.
Uzodimma also commended the victims’ parents for remaining patient during the difficult period and urged Nigerians to continue to support efforts by the Federal Government to address the country’s security challenges.
The release of the prospective corps members was earlier confirmed in a statement by Adeola Oloko, media aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Oloko said the Olubadan, His Imperial Majesty Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, received confirmation of their release from Uzodimma during a telephone conversation at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
The victims were reportedly travelling to their NYSC orientation camp when they were abducted, sparking concern among their families and prompting calls for urgent action to secure their safe return.
