Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has approved a dual mandate policy for Benjamin Uwajumogu College of Education, Isinweke, Ihitte Uboma, allowing the institution to award both degree certificates and the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).
The governor, while speaking to newsmen at the event, also charged the Imo State House of Assembly to domesticate the policy without delay and grant an automatic one-year scholarship to every student admitted for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The institution’s acting Provost, Dr. Chinyere Maryrose Nwachukwu, hailed the decision as “a landmark achievement” that ushers the college into a new era of growth and global recognition.
“By approving the dual mandate and offering scholarships, Governor Uzodimma has inscribed his name not only in marble but also in the hearts of all lovers of education,” she said, adding that the move would transform the college’s admission profile and elevate it from a solely NCE‑awarding body to a degree‑awarding institution. Also, the acting Registrar, Onyemechara James, described the scholarship as “a demonstration of compassion and commitment to educational advancement,” noting it will boost enrollment and open doors for students who might otherwise lack tuition funds.
He explained that the dual mandate framework gives the college legal backing to confer degrees alongside NCE certificates, eliminating the perceived disparity between its graduates and university counterparts.
