Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has presented the staff of office to former Senator Francis Alimikhena as the new Okumagbe of Uwanno Kingdom in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area of the state.
Okpebholo presented the staff of office to Alimikhena at about 2:39 p.m. on Saturday during the coronation ceremony held in Uwanno.
Alimikhena represented Edo North Senatorial District in the Senate for two terms.
Speaking at the ceremony, Okpebholo described the occasion as historic, saying it was an honour to witness the coronation of Alimikhena as the Okumagbe of Uwanno Kingdom.
The governor congratulated the new traditional ruler on behalf of the Edo Government and the people of the state.
“Your Highness, you come to this throne with a wealth of experience gained from decades of distinguished public service, including two terms as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“You have served at the highest levels of government, and your experience in leadership, governance and community development will surely be valuable in your new role,” he said.
Okpebholo, however, noted that traditional leadership carried a unique and sacred responsibility.
“As the Okumagbe, you are now the father of all. I therefore urge you to govern with wisdom, humility, fairness and an open heart.
“Please, carry everyone along and ensure that no son or daughter of Uwanno feels left behind.
“I also call on every son and daughter of Uwanno to give His Highness their support, cooperation and loyalty. Let us put aside our differences and unite around the common good of Uwanno Kingdom,” he added.
The governor said the strength of any kingdom depended on the unity of its people, adding that unity promotes peace, while peace brings progress.
He expressed confidence that Alimikhena’s reign would usher in a new era of peace, unity, progress and prosperity in Uwanno Kingdom.
Also speaking, the Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, congratulated Alimikhena on his ascension to the traditional throne.
Oshiomhole commended the new Okumagbe for his contributions to the development of his people and the state, while praying that God would continue to bless him and grant him the wisdom to discharge his new responsibilities.
In his remarks, Alimikhena said the occasion marked a new beginning and a turning point for the people of Uwanno Kingdom.
“It is a new dawn, an era of peace, love and development. I will establish an Uwanno Development Fund (UDF) for the purpose of mobilising resources for the ultimate development of Uwanno land,” he said.
