The North Central Development Commission (NCDC) has condemned the abduction of students travelling to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Oturkpo, Benue State.
In a statement on Friday, the Commission described the incident as disturbing and a threat to education and human capital development in the region.

The Managing Director/CEO, Dr Cyril Yiltsen Tsenyil, called for the immediate and unconditional release of the students. “This heinous act is not only an attack on innocent students but also a setback to efforts at advancing education in the North Central region,” he said. Tsenyil urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible.
“We strongly condemn this incident and call for swift action to ensure the safe return of the victims,” he added. He also called for improved security around examination centres and along transit routes.
The commission sympathised with the families of the victims and the people of Benue State. It reiterated its commitment to promoting peace, security, and development in the region, while advocating safer environments for education.
