The National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Samson Ajasa Adeyemi has demanded the resignation of Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.

Adeyemi made the demand in a Facebook post on Wednesday after Oloyede broke down in tears as he apologised for errors in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

At a press briefing in Abuja, the JAMB Registrar said he took full responsibility for the negligence of its staff, revealing that 65 centres in Lagos and 92 centres in Owerri Zone, covering the five states in the South East, would rewrite the exam.

However, Adeyemi said Oloyede’s tearful apology could not undo the havoc wreaked by JAMB’s error.

He referenced the case of 19-year-old Timilehin Faith Opesusi, a candidate that reportedly died by suicide over her low score in the just-concluded UTME.

“Jamb Registrar’s tears and apology can’t redeem the lost soul of our student who committed suicide, the Ogbomosho fatal accident and the girl who went missing for two days.

“He should accept fate and leave while the ovation is loud. This is not a technical error without human inputs.”

The NANS PRO added, “We can commend him later for owing up and taking full responsibility of the issue after all promises and corrections are successfully made.”

Adeyemi maintained that “no single paragraph” in Oloyede’s speech commiserated with families who had suffered one loss or the other during this period.
