The acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, has confirmed the establishment of a police post within the university premises to enhance security.
He made this announcement during a visit by the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Livingston Ikioye Orutugu, stating that a piece of land had already been allocated for the project.
Prof. Ikechebelu described the initiative as a crucial step towards ensuring the safety of students and staff, aligning with his administration’s ‘Blessed Vision’ for a secure and conducive learning environment.
He commended CP Orutugu for his commitment to tackling crime in the state and within the university’s host community.
Orutugu acknowledged the rising crime rates around the Ifite and Amansea areas and assured that the police post would be fully operational to curb criminal activities.
He emphasised the university’s vital role in nation-building and the importance of a secure academic space.
The visit, which marked the first time in recent memory that a sitting Commissioner of Police officially visited UNIZIK’s Vice-Chancellor, concluded with the presentation of a plaque of honour to Ikechebelu for his leadership and dedication to campus security.
