United Nigeria Airlines has suspended a member of its ground staff following allegations of unprofessional conduct toward a passenger with reduced mobility at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The airline confirmed this in an official statement where it explained that the incident, which occurred on March 30, 2026, involved Ms. Doris Akonanya, who was checking in for Flight UN0526 from Abuja to Yenagoa. The operator expressed an unreserved apology to Ms. Akonanya and her family, describing the incident as inconsistent with its values. The carrier confirmed that the staff member involved has since been suspended and that a full investigation is underway. The airline added that it has been in direct contact with the passenger and her family since the incident, offering support and keeping them informed of developments.
” The safety, dignity, and well-being of all our passengers remain our highest priority. We operate a zero-tolerance policy for any form of misconduct, discrimination, or abuse, and we are firmly committed to providing safe, respectful, and accessible travel for all, particularly passengers with reduced mobility who require additional care and support.
”We sincerely apologize to Ms. Akonanya and her family for the distress this incident has caused. This experience does not reflect our ethics, values, vision, or the standard of service we are committed to delivering to all travellers. Since the incident, our team has remained in direct contact with the passenger and her family, extended our apologies, and ensured that their concerns are addressed, support is provided, and they are kept fully informed of the steps we are taking,” the airline said.
