UNICEF praises Kebbi’s N700m malnutrition fund

The country representative of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Ms Wafaa Elfadil Saeed Abdelatef, has commended the Kebbi State Government for mobilising over N700 million to cater for food for malnourished children, asking the state and Nigeria to be a global example for other countries.

Abdelatef stated this during her courtesy visit to the Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, and official handover of cold boxes and vaccine carriers to the Kebbi State Government and symbolic flag-off of the social health insurance scheme, in Birnin Kebbi.

The high-level meeting focused on key development priorities including social health insurance, the Child Nutrition Fund (CNF), and the pressing issue of out-of-school children.

During the visit, the Governor, represented by Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar, and the UNICEF Representative officially launched two critical documents: Guidelines for Alternative Care for Children, and SOP for Coordinated Response to Sudden Onset Emergencies in Kebbi State.

While addressing the representative of the Governor, Abdelatef, who commended the vision and leadership of the Kebbi State Government, said UNICEF was really excited with the commitment of the government on education, health and provision of funds for the treatment of malnourished children.

“I want to commend the state for the commitment on education and release of N700 million to ensure supply of food and other necessary things for the children suffering from malnutrition and prevention. This is something that is commendable.

“I want your state to continue to be a good example of leadership in this aspect. We are proud of your government on education, health. We are looking forward for Nigeria, Kebbi State, to serve as a global example for other countries in Africa and other continents.”

Abdelatef, who declared the readiness of UNICEF to collaborate with the state on education and health, noted that the visit was aimed to strengthen child protection systems and enhance emergency preparedness and response across the state.

Earlier, the Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, represented by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar, commended UNICEF for always being a good partner to the state government, stressed that the current administration would always be available to collaborate with them for the betterment of the people of the state.
