A public health advocacy group, Campaign for Better Public Health (CBPH), has advised parents, students, and other stakeholders in Oyo State to exercise caution and independently verify the accreditation status of health institutions before seeking admission.
The group’s warning follows growing concerns over the rise of unregistered colleges of health allegedly operating across the state without approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
In a press statement signed by its Director of Public Communication, Anthony Ojo, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, CBPH stressed that many unsuspecting families risk being misled by institutions offering non-accredited programmes.
According to the group, only the Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology and the Iseyin College of Science and Health Technology are currently recognized on NBTE’s approved list in Oyo State.
“It is alarming that many parents and guardians remain unaware of the importance of confirming accreditation status before enrolling their children. As a patriotic body, we find it necessary to raise awareness before more students fall victim,” Ojo stated.
The group emphasized that prospective students must take responsibility for verifying school credentials through official NBTE platforms, noting that failure to do so could jeopardize their academic and professional futures.
While urging vigilance among the public, CBPH also called on the Oyo State Government, through its Ministry of Education, to intensify oversight and ensure that only duly registered institutions operate within the state.
The organisation warned that unchecked proliferation of unapproved health colleges could undermine standards in health education and pose long-term risks to public healthcare delivery.
