Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has urged the club to strengthen its defence by signing one or two players before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

Neville believes United should prioritise a left-back and a centre-back, saying the additions could make a significant difference to the team.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast after Sunday’s Premier League fixtures, the former defender stressed the importance of reinforcing the squad before the deadline.

According to Neville, bringing in the two defensive players would make a “massive difference” to United as they continue their campaign.

Michael Carrick had to deploy Leny Yoro at right-back and Noussair Mazraoui at left-back after Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw were taken off.

Neville said: “I don’t know if there are one or two defenders available, but if there are, can you somehow try and advance that money into this window and then spend less next season?

“Because it would really make a massive difference if they could get a centre-back and a full-back in.”
