The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has extolled the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Victor Ezugwu, for mobilising troops toward the success of the war against terrorism.
A media officer of the command, Capt. Emmanuel Oneachonam, said in a statement, in Maiduguri, that the Civil Military Advisor of UNOCHA, Maj.-Gen. Moses Bisong (rtd), made the commendation when he visited Gen. Ezugwu at the Maimalari Cantonment, in Maiduguri.
Bisong said the leadership ingenuity of Ezugwu contributed to the decimation of Boko Haram terrorists in North Eastern part of Nigeria.
He added that the giant and laudable strides recorded under GOC speaks volume of his unique leadership qualities.
The Advisor congratulated Ezugwu for successfully chasing Boko Haram terrorists out of Nigerian territory.
He also condoled with the command on the loss of officers and soldiers, whom he said, paid the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Bisong, a one-time GOC 1 Division, Nigerian Army, also commended the visionary leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, who he described, as the man behind the successful outing of Nigerian Army in the North-East.
He promised promised that UNOCHA’s support in the war against insurgency.
Gen. Ezugwu had congratulated the visiting advisor on his appointment.
He recalled that as a young officer, he served under Bisong as a Commanding Officer, saying that he was humbled to receive and welcome him to the North East.
The GOC described the services rendered by UNOCHA as quite critical in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists, adding that the visit would boost the morale of officers and soldiers of the Division.
He promised that the military assist UNOCHA with VIP escorts, convoy protection among others high priority areas to enable function effectively to alleviate the sufferings of the IDPs and delivery of humanitarian services across the theatre of war in general.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a Thank-You Note for Rann Emergency Response by the visiting team to the GOC. (NAN)
