Umahi redeploys two commissioners

…Inaugurates School feeding committee

Governor David Umahi, on Thursday, redeployed two commissioners serving in

his cabinet, even as he inaugurated a state’s steering committee on

primary school-feeding programme with a charge on them not to give

pupils foods with much carbohydrate contents.

Addressing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting, the

Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Sen. Emmanuel

Onwe said the minor cabinet reshuffle affected only two ministries

which included Agriculture and Natural Resources and Economic

Empowerment and Job Creation.

Sen. Onwe said the Governor directed that Orji Uchenna Orji who was

in charge of ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources should take

over the Ministry of Economic Empowerment and Job creation while Moses

Ogodo Ali Nome of Economic Empowerment and Job creation takes over as

the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Meanwhile, Governor Umahi while swearing-in the 10-man committee urged

the committee to pay less attention to food such as garri, rice, among

others, adding that they should give the pupils foods with rich

minerals contents such as vegetables, fruits, milk among others to

give them rich mineral supplements for their physical nourishment and

mental development.

“The state executive council should be aware that catering for the

committee’s logistics is its responsibility as its chairman, Rev. Fr

Abraham Nwali should soon present a budget to the council.

He noted that the committee needed to be assisted to move freely to

schools especially at the Local Government Areas to collaborate

with the committees at that level consisting of council chairmen and

others from the educational sector.

“It is important to adequately develop pupils through good meals and

sound moral upbringing, as individuals saddled with the responsibility

of taking care of our children should not mortgage it.

The governor also swore-in the new Chairman of the state Health

Management Board, Dr. Oliver Nwankwo and charged him to discharge his

duties equitably with much work to do in the state’s health sector.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Augustine

Nwankwagu noted that the steering committee replaced the disbanded one

which had no vibe in its activities while the chairmanship of the

health management board became vacant when its former chairman, Dr

Sunday Nwangle became a Special Assistant to the state governor.

Nwali, who is the Governor’s Senior Special Adviser of Religion and

Welfare Matters noted that they would approach their functions with

the fear of God and service to humanity.
