The United Kingdom has announced new visa, residency, and citizenship fees set to take effect from April 8, 2026, with Nigerians among those expected to be significantly impacted.

The revised charges, released by the UK Home Office, apply to a broad range of applications, including visit visas, student permits, work visas, settlement, and naturalisation processes, both within and outside the UK.

Among the key changes, the cost of a short-term visit visa (up to six months) will rise from £127 to £135, while student visas will increase from £524 to £558.

Indefinite leave to remain will move from £3,029 to £3,226, and the fee for naturalisation as a British citizen will increase from £1,605 to £1,709.

Work visa categories, including Skilled Worker and Health and Care visas, will also see upward adjustments, alongside routes such as Innovator Founder, Start-up, and Global Business Mobility.

However, the High Potential Individual visa remains unchanged at £880.
Settlement-related applications are also affected, with the route to settlement increasing from £1,938 to £2,064, while other dependent and extension categories have been revised upward.

Travel document fees and nationality-related services, including registration and status documentation, will also see moderate increases.

Prospective applicants are advised to submit their applications before the April deadline to avoid higher costs, especially as the new rates will affect individuals, families, and businesses planning to visit, study, work, or settle in the UK.

The latest adjustments underscore the rising cost of migration to the UK, prompting applicants to plan ahead and carefully consider timelines to minimise financial impact.
