The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof Aderonke Baiyeroju, has lamented the lack of fund for school utility bills.

In her statement on Monday, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Aderonke Baiyeroju, expressed her concern over the lack of funds for utility bills at the University of Ibadan (UI).

According to her, the university spends over N100 million Naira on electric utility bills every month, while the government only provides N10 million Naira as a monthly subsidy.

Baiyeroju made this comment while receiving equipment donated by the pioneer volunteers of Diamond FM, a radio station owned by the university. The donated items, which amounted to a sum of two million Naira, included computers, webcams, headphones, and other equipment.

The DVC expressed her gratitude towards the volunteers and emphasised the importance of giving back to the university. She also highlighted the financial challenges facing the institution, stating that the university is not doing well financially. She mentioned that the university spends over N200 million every month on utilities such as water, electricity, and diesel, while the government’s monthly subsidy of N10 million is insufficient.

Baiyeroju called for more groups and individuals to support the university financially and expressed hope that Diamond FM would go further in its efforts to improve. She emphasised the need for additional funding to meet the university’s utility expenses, as the current allocation is inadequate.
