The United African Methodist Church (UAMC) has described the forthcoming official inauguration of its Diocese of Lagos and the enthronement of the Most Reverend Moses Jesuyon Toyi as its pioneer Diocesan Archbishop as a historic milestone that will usher in a new era of spiritual growth, leadership and community development.
Speaking during a press conference at the UAMC Cathedral, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, to kick off a week-long programme of activities preceding the inauguration, Chairman of the Planning and Organising Committee, Elder Adeyemi Ajayi, said the official inauguration ceremony and enthronement will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
Ajayi noted that the establishment of the Diocese reflects the growth of the Christian faith within the region and demonstrates the Church’s commitment to providing effective pastoral care, spiritual leadership and evangelism.
According to him, the creation of the Diocese goes beyond administrative restructuring, offering greater opportunities for pastoral outreach, youth development, social services, education, healthcare initiatives and the promotion of peace, justice and human dignity within communities.
He described the forthcoming enthronement of Archbishop Toyi as a recognition of his years of faithful service, exemplary leadership, spiritual wisdom and unwavering commitment to the mission of the Church.
“We are confident that under his pastoral guidance, this Diocese will flourish and become a beacon of hope, unity and transformation,” Ajayi said.
The week-long programme, he disclosed, includes revival services, liturgical celebrations, goodwill visits and other preparatory activities leading up to the official inauguration of the Diocese and the enthronement of the Archbishop on Saturday.
Responding to questions from journalists, Archbishop Toyi explained that the inauguration is particularly significant because it formally launches the Diocese of Lagos following its pronouncement by the leadership of the Church in 2023.

According to him, the event represents a new chapter in the more than 100 years of the Church’s existence and provides an opportunity to officially present the Diocese to the world.
“The inauguration formally launches the Diocese of Lagos and includes the enthronement of the Archbishop, who will provide spiritual and administrative leadership for members of the Diocese,” he said.
Outlining his vision for the Diocese, the Archbishop stated that his administration would focus on providing organised spiritual oversight for congregations, fostering unity among churches under a common vision and mission, and encouraging cooperation, mutual support and a shared identity among members.
He further pledged to strengthen the relationship between local congregations and the wider denomination through effective administration, while prioritising the training, supervision, ordination and welfare of ministers and church workers.
Archbishop Toyi also identified youth development as a major priority of his administration, stressing the need to encourage youth leadership and active participation in Church affairs.
He said empowering young people with leadership responsibilities would give them a stronger sense of belonging and help secure the future of the Church.
The Archbishop called on members of the Church and the public to support the new Diocese through prayers and active participation in the activities leading to the inauguration, expressing confidence that the Diocese of Lagos would play a vital role in advancing the mission of the United African Methodist Church in Nigeria and beyond.
The official inauguration of the Diocese of Lagos and the enthronement of Archbishop Toyi are scheduled to hold on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the UAMC Cathedral, Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
