Donald Trump is set to meet with his top national security and foreign policy advisers on Monday to discuss the Iran war, as negotiations between Washington and Tehran appear to have reached a deadlock.

The meeting comes amid reports that recent talks in Pakistan, the first round of negotiations aimed at ending the conflict, failed to produce a breakthrough, with Iran blaming the United States for the impasse.

According to US media reports, Trump will review next steps after a new proposal from Tehran fell short of Washington’s key demands.

The proposal reportedly focused on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending a US naval blockade, while postponing nuclear discussions.

Hopes for renewed diplomacy had briefly risen following the visit of Abbas Araghchi to Islamabad.

However, momentum stalled after Trump cancelled a planned trip by envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Trump later signalled that Iran would need to take the initiative if talks were to resume, saying Tehran could reach out directly if it was serious about negotiations.
