US President Donald Trump has lashed out at comedian Trevor Noah, threatening legal action after a cheeky joke at the 2026 Grammy Awards in which the comedian insinuated that Trump visited convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s island.

Noah, who was born in South Africa, hosted the event in Los Angeles for the sixth time on Sunday night, where his sharp wit once again put him in the spotlight – this time drawing fire from the White House.

The drama unfolded during the comedian’s presentation of the Song of the Year award to Billie Eilish for her hit, Wildflower.

He said, “Song of the year, congratulations Billie Eilish, wow. That is a Grammy that every artiste wants, almost as much as Trump wants Greenland. Which makes sense, I mean, because Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out with Bill Clinton.”

The remark, delivered with Noah’s trademark grin, referenced Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland, a move currently pitching the United States against traditional allies like Denmark and the European Union.

Jeffrey Epstein’s private island, Little Saint James, has been at the centre of explosive allegations involving high-profile figures, including former President Bill Clinton.

But Trump wasn’t laughing. Just hours after the broadcast, the president fired back on his Truth Social platform with a lengthy, fiery post that pulled no punches.

“The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable! CBS is lucky not to have this garbage litter their airwaves any longer,” Trump wrote.

He compared Noah to late-night host Jimmy Kimmel and slammed the show’s ratings.

Directly addressing the joke, the US President stated, “Noah said, INCORRECTLY about me, that Donald Trump and Bill Clinton spent time on Epstein Island. WRONG!!! I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory statement, have never been accused of being there, not even by the Fake News Media.”

Trump, who has long denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein, emphasised that the claim was baseless and defamatory.

He also unleashed a barrage of insults at Noah, calling him “a total loser” who “better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast.”

He added, “It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty$. Ask Little George Slopadopolus, and others, how that all worked out. Also ask CBS! Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you!”

The reference to “Little George Slopadopolus” appears to be a dig at ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, alluding to past legal settlements Trump has secured from media outlets over what he claims are false statements.

This is not the first time Noah has poked fun at Trump. The former Daily Show host has built a career on satirising global leaders, often drawing from his own experiences growing up under apartheid in South Africa.
