Trump gives Iran 48-hour ultimatum over Hormuz Strait

Trump

US President Donald Trump has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning that Washington could target the country’s power plants if the key shipping route remains restricted.

“If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN… the Strait of Hormuz… the United States… will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS,” Trump said, signalling a sharp escalation in the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran.

The threat comes as tensions continue to rise in the region, with global markets already reacting to disruptions in the vital waterway, which handles a significant share of the world’s oil and gas supply.

In response, Iranian authorities warned that any attack on their energy infrastructure would trigger retaliation against US energy assets across the region, raising fears of a wider conflict.

The Strait of Hormuz has seen shipping activity drop significantly since the war began, with Iran maintaining that the route remains open only to countries it does not consider hostile.

Despite Trump’s latest threat, US military officials say Iran’s ability to disrupt shipping has already been weakened following recent strikes on missile sites and coastal facilities.

However, the gap between political rhetoric and military assessments has added to uncertainty, as the conflict enters its fourth week with no clear end in sight.
