Barau inaugurates Kano North campaign council, seeks APC victory

Deputy President of the Senate Barau Jibrin has inaugurated the Kano North Senatorial District Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, charging members to mobilise for the victory of all All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the district.

Barau urged party stakeholders to unite and work for the success of APC candidates from the presidential election down to the State House of Assembly, declaring: “APC, SAK.”

The campaign council is expected to mobilise voters across the 13 local government areas of Kano North for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, Barau, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, as well as APC candidates for the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.

Inaugurating the council in Kano on Tuesday, Barau said the arrangement was all-inclusive, with every stakeholder at the ward, local government and senatorial district levels having a role to play in the party’s success.

“This is an all-inclusive arrangement. Everybody is involved, and all stakeholders are part and parcel of this council. This has always been our system, and it is one of the reasons we have continued to succeed in Kano North. This election will not be an exception, by God’s grace,” he said.

The Deputy Senate President also urged members who contested the APC primaries but lost to put the outcome behind them and work with those who emerged as candidates.

“You can see that many of those who contested the primaries but did not secure the tickets are here today. They understand that the party belongs to all of us, and that the victory of the party is ultimately their own victory,” Barau said.

He described the conduct of primary elections as normal in a democracy, stressing that the focus should now be on ensuring victory for the party in the general elections.

The campaign council, chaired by the Managing Director of the Hadeja Jama’are River Basin Development Authority and former Secretary to the Kano State Government, Engineer Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, is expected to coordinate the mobilisation of APC supporters across the district.

Bichi, in his response, pledged that the council would campaign for all APC candidates, from the presidential level to the State House of Assembly.

He described Barau as a “strong and sellable candidate”, citing his interventions and contributions to the development of Kano State.

He said the council comprised seasoned politicians and grassroots mobilisers who would work to secure the highest possible number of votes for APC candidates in Kano North, while assuring Barau that members of the council would work tirelessly to mobilise voters and secure victory for the party in the 2027 elections.
