Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two terrorists, rescued a kidnapped victim, arrested eight suspected collaborators and recovered 110 rustled cattle during a series of coordinated operations across Kaduna and Zamfara states between June 27 and 28, 2026.

The Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said that on June 27, troops of Sector 1, working with members of the Vigilante Group, encountered terrorists transporting kidnapped victims on motorcycles during a fighting patrol in Giwa and Kaduna North Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.

Following a fierce gun battle, the terrorists abandoned two motorcycles and fled into the bush. The troops rescued one kidnapped victim alive but recovered the body of another victim who had been killed by the terrorists.

Later that day, troops responded to a terrorist attack on Dariya Village in Giwa Local Government Area, where one civilian was killed and three others injured before security personnel arrived.

The troops pursued the fleeing terrorists, intercepted them while they were escaping on motorcycles and engaged them in another firefight, killing two of the attackers. They also recovered a motorcycle, ammunition, charms and other personal effects.

In a separate intelligence-led operation, troops of Sector 2 in Magami, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, arrested two suspects believed to have been providing medical support to terrorist groups operating in the area.

Similarly, troops of Sector 1 on fighting patrol around Polewire Village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area arrested six suspects found under suspicious circumstances after a firefight with fleeing terrorists. The suspects are currently under investigation.

On June 28, troops of Sector 1, in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, pursued cattle rustlers and laid a snap ambush along their suspected escape route at Ungwan Gora bush.

The sustained pressure forced the rustlers to abandon the stolen livestock and flee, leading to the recovery of all 110 cattle, which were subsequently handed over to their rightful owners.

The Joint Task Force North West reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal groups across the region and urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence.
