Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have foiled multiple kidnapping attempts and rescued several victims within the last 48 hours across their joint areas of operation in Plateau and Kaduna states.
Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace (OPED), Capt. Chinonso Oteh, said in a statement that troops had also launched aggressive manhunts for fleeing criminal elements across the two states.
According to him, in the first operation, troops of Sector 6 deployed in Sopp District, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, responded to reports of suspected kidnappers who blocked the highway along the Hawan Kibo–Rafin Sayin axis at about 12:30 a.m. on June 5, 2026.
He said that upon arrival at the scene, the tactical team discovered an ash-coloured Honda vehicle with registration number APP-93CF abandoned in the middle of the road.
Troops, he said, immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation in the surrounding bushes, leading to the successful rescue of six kidnapped passengers.
The rescued victims disclosed that they had boarded the commercial vehicle from Lafia, Nasarawa State, and were travelling to Jos.
Oteh said that while the victims were rescued safely, the driver of the vehicle remained missing, adding that troops were maintaining an active search to locate and rescue him.
Simultaneously, troops of Sector 5 operating in Bokkos recorded another success against criminal elements when they responded to an urgent distress call from Faggem Village on June 5, 2026.
He said troops swiftly mobilised and foiled an ongoing abduction attempt, as operational pressure forced the criminals to abandon their targets and flee into a nearby forest.
The operation led to the rescue of a pastor and his wife from the kidnappers.
The couple, who sustained injuries during the initial assault, were promptly evacuated to Bokkos Medical Clinic for treatment, while troops launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
In a related development, troops of Sector 7 deployed at Ungwan Gora in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in the early hours of Saturday, June 6, 2026, responded to reports of suspected terrorists blocking the highway between Rafi Tagwai and Angwan Dariya.

Meanwhile, one person was killed and another injured when armed men ambushed Shedrack Dalyop, 36, of Kuru District, and Mang Davou, 32, of Gyel District, at Sabon Gidan Kanar in Gyel District of Jos South Local Government Area.
While Dalyop was killed, Davou sustained injuries.
National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, said in a statement yesterday that the incident occurred barely days after a similar attack in the same area that claimed one life and left another person hospitalised.
He said the incidents underscored the growing insecurity confronting residents of the community.
BYM called on Operation Enduring Peace (OPED) and other security agencies to investigate the attack, arrest the perpetrators, and ensure they are brought to justice.
The statement read: “The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), under the leadership of Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, strongly condemns the ambush of Shedrack Dalyop, 36, of Kuru District, and Mang Davou, 32, of Gyel District, at Sabon Gidan Kanar in Gyel District of Jos South Local Government Area.
“The attack resulted in the death of Shedrack Dalyop, while Mang Davou sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
“This incident occurred barely days after a similar attack in the same area that claimed one life and left another person hospitalised, underscoring the growing insecurity confronting residents of the community.”
While condoling with the family of the late Dalyop and praying for the speedy recovery of Davou, BYM urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding while security agencies take decisive action to address the worsening security situation in the area.
The association warned that it could not continue to remain silent while innocent citizens were being targeted and killed daily.
A few key fixes: corrected inconsistencies between OPEP/OPED, tightened repetition, fixed punctuation and spacing, standardised place names and titles, and reduced redundancy in the BYM statement.
