Tricycle operator docked over alleged assault

A 38-year-old tricycle operator, Ifeanyi Amadi, was charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday for allegedly using a screw driver to inflict injuries on a fellow tricycle operator, one Hamidu Musa.
Amadi , who resides at No. 25, Arunah Road, Ogba, Lagos, is facing a three- count charge bordering on assault and breach of peace.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ishola Samuel , told court that the accused committed the offences on June 6, at Ogba Bus-Stop, Lagos.
Samuel said the accused stabbed Musa with a Screw driver after giving him punches and inflicting serious injuries on his right and left legs.
“The prosecutor said that the accused assaulted Musa because he deliberately called him Boko Haram, when he confronted him to know his purpose of calling him the name.
“The accused descended on him by inflicting serious injuries on him, in the process, a traffic warden, Abah Francis, who intervened in the matter trying to settle it, was slapped by Amadi and he was then arrested,’’ he said.
Samuel said that the offences contravened Sections 172 and 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 172 prescribes a three-year jail term for assault.
The Magistrate, Miss A.R. Onilogbo, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Onilogbo ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two-year tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The court adjourned the case until July 17. (NAN)
