Tribunal affirms ex-Abia Speaker’s defeat, upholds LP House candidate’s election

From Okey Sampson, Umuahia

The National Assembly election petition tribunal sitting in umuahia, Abia State on Thursday, upheld the defeat in the February 25 election of the former Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Chinedum Orji.

The Tribunal instead affirmed the victory of Obi Aguocha of the Labour Party (LP).

In its ruling, the three man panel of the tribunal dismissed the petition by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), seeking to nullify the electoral victory of Aguocha in the Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Abubakar Kutigi, dismissed Orji’s petition for lack of merit.

On Wednesday, another panel sitting in Umuahia, nullified the election of Hon Amobi Ogah of the Labour Party and declared Hon Nkiruka Onyejeocha of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the duly elected member of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency.
