Ahead of the July 12, 2025, Local Government (LG) Elections, traders and business owners at the bustling Alaba International Market have rallied behind Hon. Muhibat Rufai, a leading aspirant for the chairmanship of Ojo Local Government under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a show of solidarity, vendors and market associations gathered to express their support, recognizing Rufai’s commitment to uplifting Ojo LG and addressing the challenges faced by the traders.
During a spirited gathering at the Electronic Garage Market, traders took turns sharing their confidence in Rufai’s leadership abilities and her vision for the local government. Many highlighted her proactive approach to issues such as market regulation, sanitation, and the need for better infrastructure, which they believe will significantly enhance their business environment.
High Chief Dr. Camillus Nnamdi Amajuoyi Uzochukwuwara, President of the Alaba Council of Sectional Heads and the International Market Association, underscored the critical importance of voting for leaders who genuinely fulfill their promises. “Our community is committed to supporting the ruling party to promote meaningful development,” he affirmed, emphasizing the community’s desire for improved infrastructure and effective governance.
Amajuoyi highlighted that the Ojo community in Lagos State is under the governance of the APC and that many residents have established businesses here. He pointed out the devastating impact of neglected infrastructure, particularly the deplorable state of local roads, which serve as vital arteries for the community. “Our roads are in a terrible condition, leading to damage to traders’ goods, causing accidents, and injuring residents—resulting in significant economic losses,” he explained.
He criticized previous political promises that went unfulfilled, saying, “Past promises from other parties have left us struggling. But we believe Hon. Muhibat Rufai, the APC candidate for [position], is the right leader to bring real change.” He detailed her proposed initiatives, including asphalt repairs, upgraded drainage systems, and regular maintenance, which aim to create safer roads, reduce economic setbacks, and improve overall quality of life.
Amajuoyi stressed that their support for Rufai is based on her proven vision and dedication, not pressure. “We’ve made this choice because we trust her commitment to our community’s development. We call on all Ojo residents to stand with us in supporting Hon. Muhibat Rufai and demanding the infrastructure improvements we deserve.”
Hon. Muhibat Rufai understands our struggles and is determined to fight for our rights. We believe that with her as chairperson, our voices will be heard.
Supporters adorned in APC colors waved banners and chanted slogans, emphasizing the message of unity and progress. Hon. Muhibat Rufai, who attended the gathering, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support and reiterated her commitment to the welfare of traders.
“I am here to listen to you and to represent your interests,” Rufai said. “If entrusted with this position, I will prioritize creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive and ensure that your concerns are addressed.”
As the local elections draw nearer, the enthusiasm among the traders at Alaba International Market signals a growing momentum for Rufai’s campaign, making her a formidable contender for the chairmanship position.
The election is set to take place on July 12. With the backing of traders in such a vital economic hub, Hon. Muhibat Rufai added that her path to victory is promising and that her vision embraces both progress and prosperity for the community.
