Acting Vice Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State, Prof. Kate Omenugha has stated that the entrepreneurial spirit and talent of the students are being unleashed for greater productivity through their participation in the university’s trade fair.
Omenugha who spoke yesterday in Igbariam campus at the end of the two-day trade fair programme organised by the committee on Business Ventures Unit of the university said no stone would be left unturned in her desire to push the university to global reckoning through the 3VS Project of Values, Visibility and Viability.
Omenugha who visited all the business stands on the fair, interacted with the student participants and also patronized their businesses ranging from trendy clothing, accessories, beauty products, footwear, baked items, kitchenware and beauty fragrances etc. said students’ welfare would always be given prime attention in her administration.
Coordinator, COOU Business Venture, Collins Okelue, said the first ever business venture trade fair of the university was made possible through the visionary attributes of the Vice Chancellor.
“The primary aim of this trade fair is to encourage the SMEs in the university, to encourage the students to embrace hard work and shun all other vices and indulgences.
This is the way the Vice Chancellor and the university management is encouraging the students to shun shortcuts and other negative ways of making it in life. This also coincides with the one year anniversary of the Acting Vice Chancellor in office and it has been a harvest of achievements,” he stated.
He said the plan is to hold the fair twice in a year, noting that the reception from the public and the university community had been massive.
Okelue disclosed that there was scepticism at the initial stage of the preparation as people were not so sure of how it would go but at the end, the expectations were surpassed as both students and those from outside oversubscribed for the spaces available.
One of the participating students, Ifunanya Rosemary, a 400-Level student in the Department of Entrepreneurial Studies said the trade fair gave her the opportunity to market her products and gain more contacts which will most definitely push her outdoor kuli kuli and snack services to the next level.
