The TOS Foundation has unveiled a new civic-tech initiative known as the 469 Tracker, a platform created to monitor the positions of federal lawmakers on the Reserved Seats for Women Bill.
Named after the total number of members in the National Assembly, 109 senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives, the platform allows citizens to follow, in real time, which lawmakers support, oppose, or remain undecided on the proposed legislation.
According to the Foundation, the effort aims to make political accountability more accessible to Nigeria’s younger population by merging technology with civic participation.
The Founder of TOS Foundation, Osasu Igbinedion Ogwuche, said the tool is part of an effort to bring governance closer to Nigerians who are active in digital spaces. She noted that citizens can check how their representatives stand on the bill and track any changes as lawmakers adopt new positions.
The Reserved Seats for Women Bill seeks to expand women’s representation in government by establishing 182 additional female-only legislative seats across federal and state levels. The proposal includes 37 reserved seats each in the Senate and House of Representatives, as well as three per state in all 36 state Houses of Assembly. Supporters argue that this will ensure women, both young and old, have stronger influence in the policymaking process.
The 469 Tracker integrates open data, media storytelling, and influencer-led advocacy to encourage youth engagement and increase transparency around the bill’s progress. It will be used to amplify public discussion and encourage Nigerians to hold elected officials accountable.
The initiative forms part of a wider push for a more inclusive, gender-balanced political system. The bill has already received endorsement from the leadership of both chambers of the National Assembly, including the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas. Members of the executive, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu, have also offered support, alongside the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governors’ Spouses Forum.
The TOS Foundation describes its broader mission as advancing civic engagement through innovation, journalism, and culture-driven advocacy. By working with media partners, digital creators, and grassroots organisations, the organisation intends to transform democratic participation into a relatable and impactful experience for young Nigerians.
