Six occupants of a commercial Gulf car with the registration number DKA 555 XF, red colour, at about 7 am on Thursday lost their lives along Kaduna-Abuja highway by Sabon Gaya, Kakau axis.

Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna State Command, Kabir Yusuf Nadabo, who confirmed the sad development to Daily Sun attributed the cause of the crash to loss of control, overspeeding and tyer bust.

But another security source who spoke in confidence said the Golf driver was driving through one of the dual-carriage lanes under reconstruction to beat the bad portion on the diverted lane when he crashed into a concrete barricade, killing himself and five other passengers instantly.

“The FRSC and other road safety ambassadors have always been cautioning motorists to avoid creating an illegal diversion to avoid unfortunate developments like what we have today.

“This further buttresses the point that not all that glitter is gold. The other lane the contractor is currently working on looks too good and the driver was running at such a speed that he could not control the vehicle when he suddenly sighted the barricade.

“It is very sad. We hope someone will borrow a leaf from this and learn to exercise patience while on the road especially this Kaduna-Abuja portion of the road under reconstruction.

“We want to console the families of those that lost their lives in this avoidable incident”, the source said.

Meanwhile, the FRSC boss said the bodies of the victims have been deposited at St Gerald Catholic Hospital, Kakuri, Kaduna South local government area of the state while goods recovered from the scene are in safe custody.
