Tinubu resolute on security, Shettima assures at NISS Course 18

From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed that President Bola Tinubu is taking decisive steps to confront Nigeria’s security challenges, underscoring the administration’s steadfast commitment to strengthening the country’s security framework.

Shettima spoke on Tuesday during a visit by the faculty and participants of the National Institute for Security Studies’ Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 18 to the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The NISS Commandant, Joseph Odama, led the delegation, presenting the executive brief of their end-of-course report to the Vice President, who accepted it on behalf of President Tinubu.

Underscoring the significance of the programme, which featured participants from various federal ministries, departments, and agencies as well as international delegates, Shettima said, “President Tinubu is working round the clock to address concerns in the security sector. It is absolutely essential that we fuse as one to address these issues and all hands must be on deck to salvage the situation.”

In a statement by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima also referenced security across Africa, adding, “The security of Africa is a collective responsibility of all stakeholders given the peculiarity of the situation.”

The report presented by EIMC 18, titled “Non-state Actors in Security Management in Africa: Issues, Challenges and Prospects for Peace and Development,” recommended the harmonisation and integration of country-based security initiatives into a comprehensive strategy to reinforce legal frameworks for peace and conflict resolution in Nigeria and across the continent.

Odama gave an overview of the year-long programme, starting in February 2025, and highlighted the intellectual and professional growth achieved by participants. The cohort included 78 senior officials—spanning military, paramilitary, law enforcement, strategic government agencies, and delegates from five African countries.

“With the graduation of EIMC 18, the institute has proudly graduated 1,130 strategic leaders equipped to think critically and act decisively on complex security and developmental challenges facing our nation and continent,” Odama stated.

He expressed appreciation to the President and Vice President, citing the “visionary and pragmatic leadership” of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which is already fostering tangible national progress.
