President Bola Tinubu Monday evening at the State House, Abuja, received Ghana’s President-elect, John Mahama, who paid him a courtesy visit to Nigerian in Abuja on Tuesday, in a diplomatic engagement following Mahama’s victory in the December 7 general election.
The meeting took place at the official residence of the Nigerian president, the Aso Rock Villa. Details of the discussions between the two leaders remain undisclosed; however, the visit underscores the importance of regional cooperation and solidarity in West Africa.
This encounter follows a congratulatory phone call from President Tinubu to Mahama shortly after the election results were announced.
In their telephone conversation, Tinubu has expressed hope that Mahama’s second term would contribute to enhanced stability and development in the region.
Tinubu, who also serves as the chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), commended the people of Ghana for their unwavering commitment to democratic principles.
He described Ghana as a model for political stability and transparent governance in Africa, highlighting the significance of citizens’ rights to freely elect their leaders.
The meeting between Mahama and Tinubu is seen as a vital step in strengthening ties between Ghana and Nigeria, two key players in West Africa.
