President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Major General Abdullahi Mohammed Adangba (retd), former Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Yar’Adua. General Mohammed passed away at the age of 86, leaving a lasting legacy in Nigeria’s security architecture.
According to a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President noted that Mohammed played a pivotal role in the creation of the National Security Organisation, the predecessor to the State Security Service (SSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).
His commitment to national security and governance was a cornerstone of his decades-long career.

Apart from his national security roles, he also served as governor of the now-defunct Benue-Plateau State from 1975 to 1976. President Tinubu praised him as a disciplined, loyal, and patriotic officer, whose service significantly contributed to Nigeria’s stability.
The President highlighted Mohammed’s exceptional character, describing him as a man who combined military precision with statesmanlike prudence. His tenure at the State House was marked by humility, efficiency, and an unwavering dedication to the Nigerian nation.
President Tinubu extended condolences to the family of the late general, the government and people of Kwara State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all Nigerians mourning the loss of this distinguished son of the nation.
