President Bola Tinubu has expressed heartfelt condolences to the labour movement and civil society following the death of respected unionist and rights activist Abiodun Aremu.
The labour defender died on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in Ota, Ogun State.
According to a statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a tribute, President Tinubu praised Aremu’s unwavering commitment to championing workers’ rights and empowering labourers across Nigeria. He extended sympathies to Aremu’s family, friends, and all who worked with the late activist.
Describing Comrade Aremu as “a courageous comrade who remained steadfast in his beliefs and never wavered in his defence of the oppressed,” the President highlighted his roles as a teacher, organiser, and moral compass for many Nigerians.

“He shaped minds and inspired generations on integrity, justice, and patriotism. The nation has lost a selfless patriot and a tireless fighter for the common good,” Tinubu stated.
The President also specifically commiserated with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and the wider civil society on the loss of a reliable ally in advancing workers’ welfare.
Praying for the repose of Aremu’s soul and strength for his family, President Tinubu affirmed the nation’s gratitude for the late labour champion’s enduring legacy.
