President Bola Tinubu has implored Nigerians to foster unity, peace and moral renewal at the start of Ramadan, calling on all faiths to back drives for national stability.
Speaking at the opening of this year’s Tafsir at the State House Mosque, Tinubu highlighted the overlap with the Christian season of Lent as a divine cue to shared values. “Ramadan coincides with Lent, reminding us of our common commitment to sacrifice, discipline, prayer and self-denial,” he said.
The President expanded fasting’s essence beyond physical abstinence. “It must embody kindness, forgiveness, good deeds and love for humanity,” Tinubu stressed, urging citizens across religions to pray for peace and support campaigns against terrorism, banditry and insecurity.
Chief Imam of the State House Mosque, Sheikh Abdulwahid Suleiman, opened with thanks to Allah for enabling the faithful to enter another Ramadan — the month of the Holy Qur’an’s revelation.
Imam Suleiman lauded Tinubu’s leadership, wishing him a peaceful Ramadan, and invoked divine mercy. “May Allah forgive His servants this sacred month and decree goodness for them all year,” he prayed.
He sought Allah’s guidance for the president and his team. “Grant them wisdom in leadership, good health and strength,” the Chief Imam supplicated, while beseeching peace, stability and prosperity for all Nigerians.
