The first phase of the Lagos State Drivers’ Care Programme was concluded on Thursday, February 12, with a final outreach at Iyana-Iba motor park.
The initiative, which commenced at Lilypond (Ijora Apapa corridor), moved through Eleko Junction and Obalende before rounding off at Iyana-Iba.
Across the various locations, thousands of commercial drivers benefited from free eye screening and prescription glasses, drug testing and sensitisation, complimentary recertification training, as well as Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) permit mandated for all commercial drivers in the state.
Speaking at the closing event, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport and Logistics, Hon. Hassan Adekoya, disclosed that the programme would be implemented in phases to ensure wider coverage across the state.
He expressed appreciation to Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his continued support and commitment to the welfare of commercial drivers, reaffirming the state government’s resolve to prioritise road safety and the well-being of Lagosians.
Following a successful flag-off at Apapa on Monday, February 9, 2026, the Lagos State Drivers’ Care team attended to drivers the following day at Eleko Junction, along the Ibeju-Lekki Corridor, while Day Three was at Obalende Park the following day (Wednesday, February 11).
At Eleko Junction on Tuesday, commercial drivers at the location benefited from free eye screening and glasses, drug testing and sensitisation, while also being registered for complimentary drivers’ recertification training.
The initiative underscores the Lagos State government’s unwavering commitment to road safety, driver health and enhanced welfare within the transportation sector.
