Thembi Portia Shilenge who is today known as the “bitcoin queen” of South Africa was born in the modest village of Mmakaunyane in the North West Province of South Africa, where she had her primary and high school education, graduating in 2010 from Mabopane Secondary School.
At Tshwane University of Technology, she studied Chemical Engineering and graduated in 2014 with her B.Tech degree.
Thembi Shilenge spent the next year, 2015, acquiring finance, business and management skills at Sage Pastel Accounting Academy.
She worked at Anglo Platinum for two years as a chemical engineer. Between 2015 and 2017, she also worked variously at Amalungla Minerals, ChromTech Holdings, Department of Public Works, Kroondal Platinum Mine, City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality and SABMiller Plc.
In 2016, Thembi Shilenge explored other career options. After working briefly in 2017, as a sales representative for Metropolitan, an insurance company in Pretoria, she focused on fintech and cryptocurrency companies.
In this regard, she worked for several companies, sometimes combining two jobs.
Among the companies, she worked for were the likes of Atlantic Global Asset Management LP, BitClub Network, and Questra World.
From 2016 till date, Thembi Shilenge has been working with Binance as a crypto trader. Within the same time frame, she has also worked as a bitcoin mining specialist and also doubled as a sales and marketing specialist for the German company, Nexus Global Limited, where she spent six months from July to December 2018.
She took up the job of marketing director for Learning Enterprises Organisation Ltd, a UK-based company she spent eight months working for to further deepen her experience in crypto trading.
Two years ago, in 2019, Thembi Shilenge became the president of Novus, an automated forex trading and cryptocurrency trading investment platform.
As 2021 gradually draws to an end, her reputation as the amazon of bitcoin is beyond any doubt.
