Nigerian-born songwriter and music producer, Sam Ifon, is expanding his musical career by planning to establish Lagos Music House, a music production hub and record label aimed at promoting music production and providing opportunities for emerging and established talent.
His creative journey has also taken a new direction with his entry into gospel music, resulting in two albums: Echoes Of Love and Supernatural Gospel.
The albums feature inspirational tracks, including Glory Hallelujah, Abba Father, Rise and Walk, and God I Thank You, among others.
Beyond gospel music, Ifon has continued to use his songwriting and composition skills to address contemporary social issues, historical concerns and questions of justice.
One of his recent releases, Let Them Go, explores the historical experiences of the Igbo people of Eastern Nigeria, particularly the allegations surrounding the purported “Igbo Coup” and the events that preceded the pogroms and Nigerian Civil War.
Through the song, Ifon argues that the Igbo people were wrongly accused and that the consequences of those events continue to affect the country.
He also believes that the prolonged marginalisation and suppression of the Igbo people have contributed to Nigeria’s wider developmental challenges, insisting that the energy expended in holding a section of the country down has weakened the nation’s collective progress.
The proposed Lagos Music House is expected to provide a platform for music production, talent development and record-label operations, while creating opportunities for collaboration among industry stakeholders.
If successful, the initiative could further strengthen Ifon’s contribution to the Nigerian music industry, combining his experience as a songwriter and recording artiste with his ambition to build a sustainable music business.
