Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has said that President Bola Tinubu is working hard to ensure Nigeria’s economic challenges would soon be over.
Speaking during the 21st edition of The Sun Awards which took place in Lagos yesterday, Akume who was the chairman of the occasion, said that as a nation, Nigeria has experienced good and bad times, fought a civil war, experienced recession, witnessed the COVID pandemic and survived.
He said that the country’s resilience during difficult times is incredible and its capacity to rebound after setbacks marks it out as a nation.
“The task of nation-building is for every citizen. The government has its role to play in policy formulation, creation of the enabling environment, provision of infrastructure, and giving all Nigerians equal opportunity to excel. The citizens also have roles to play to make the government achieve its objectives.
“Obviously, the country is facing some challenges, just like other nations the world over. However, the government is making serious efforts to solve the problems. Although the expected outcomes may be late in coming, but surely we shall get there. That is the vision of President Bola Tinubu’s government. In all, I have no doubt that the government is working tirelessly to ensure that our tomorrow will be better than today. Therefore, let us support the government to make Nigeria great again,” he said.
He commended The Sun Newspapers for sustaining the awards and congratulated all the awardees, saying: “I congratulate The Sun for its consistency in going the extra mile to select some Nigerians and highlight the great things they have done to help in nation-building and development. “Looking at the list and the things the awardees have done to merit the honour, I highly commend them. The award winners should really be proud of themselves. That a newspaper like The Sun, which is professional in its activities and also very critical of those who have not done well in government and public service, could single them out for recognition is a great feat. That they have been chosen is an indication that they have done very well in their areas of calling.”
