Operating from his studio in Ajah, Lagos, Abinoro Akporode Collins has built a career defined by discipline, experimentation, and global ambition.

A graduate of Auchi Polytechnic with both National and Higher National Diplomas in fine art and sculpture, Collins pioneered armature-free cutlery sculpting constructing stable, life sized figures without visible internal supports.

His breakthrough international milestone came during the Ankara scrap art symposium curated by Beste Gürsu and sponsored by ASELSAN. Among ten global artists, Collins stood out with The Legend of the Bozkurt.

The sculpture required meticulous welding and structural balancing, as thousands of stainless steel fragments were layered to produce lifelike motion. The geometric mountain base introduced architectural rigor to the organic wolf form.

Beyond the spectacle, the residency fostered cross-cultural dialogue. Artists exchanged techniques, environmental strategies, and conceptual frameworks reinforcing the role of art as soft diplomacy.

Collins’ résumé continues to expand: exhibitions in Lagos’ National Museum, IKASD Ankara’s Colors of Africa exhibition, and climate-focused shows in the UAE and Morocco.

From local exhibitions to international commissions, Collins represents a generation of Nigerian artists who are redefining what contemporary African sculpture looks like industrial, sustainable, and unapologetically global.
