Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has made history after becoming the first African female artist to record seven entries on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The new milestone was achieved this week after her song What You Need debuted at number 93 on the chart, bringing her total number of appearances on the Billboard Hot 100 to seven.

With the feat, Tems now joins Burna Boy and South African rock band Seether as the African artists with the most entries on the prestigious chart.

Tems’ achievement has been widely celebrated as another major win for Nigerian music and Afrobeats on the global stage.

Tems’ journey to international recognition has been marked by several historic moments.

In 2022, she became the first African artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with Wait For U, a collaboration with Future and Drake.

That moment announced her arrival on the world stage and highlighted the growing influence of African music in mainstream global charts.

Since then, the singer has maintained a strong international presence, earning Grammy recognition, global collaborations and consistent chart success.

Music industry watchers believe Tems may soon stand alone at the top, as Bunce Road Blues, her collaboration with J. Cole and Future, is projected to enter the Billboard Hot 100 in the coming week. If that happens, she will become the African artist with the highest number of entries on the chart.

Tems’ latest achievement sparked excitement across social media, with fans praising her consistency and global appeal.

One fan, @Itata_9, wrote:

“Wow. I knew this song was gaining traction, but I didn’t expect it to chart this soon. The COLORS performance really helped. She’s definitely getting eight entries next.”

Another user, @Triidee, commented:

“I dey tell people say na Tems make essence wetin e be. Dem think say na joke.”
