TECNO is collaborating with UNICEF Nigeria to bolster the Nigeria Learning Passport, a digital learning platform. The initiative tackles the crucial challenge of educational access in Nigeria, ensuring quality education reaches every child.
Across the globe, millions of children lack access to proper schooling. Nigeria faces a particularly acute educational divide. To address this disparity, the Federal Ministry of Education and UNICEF launched the innovative Nigeria Learning Passport program in 2022, aligning with UNICEF’s global Learning Passport initiative.
This digital platform provides curriculum-based resources in local languages, accessible online and offline. This empowers children to learn anytime, anywhere, fostering a truly inclusive learning environment. The platform offers a comprehensive range of educational content, from foundational skills to advanced development, along with professional training for educators.
The Nigeria Learning Passport has seen impressive growth, expanding to 19 states and boasting over 888,000 registered users, ranking second globally. TECNO’s partnership with UNICEF aims to further propel this initiative.
By working together, they will strengthen content development, provide and maintain technical equipment, and enhance professional training for educators. Notably, in 2024, UNICEF plans to introduce offline content specifically designed for 50,000 children in remote and underprivileged areas. This will significantly reduce the educational gap and elevate the quality of education for all.
Cristian Munduate, UNICEF Country Representative in Nigeria, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “Partnering with TECNO allows us to extend the Nigeria Learning Passport’s reach and impact. This will equip more children, particularly those in underserved areas, with the quality education they deserve.”
TECNO’s General Manager, Jack Guo, echoed this sentiment, highlighting education’s role in breaking the cycle of poverty: “TECNO prioritizes giving back to our communities through social responsibility efforts. Investing in education is key to disrupting poverty’s intergenerational cycle and fostering social and economic development.”
By the end of 2023, the Learning Passport program had expanded to an impressive 38 countries, boasting over 6 million registered users and 13,000 courses. This impactful initiative has garnered international recognition, being named one of the 50 Most Influential Projects by The Project Management Institute in 2020 and a Top 100 Invention by TIME magazine in 2021.
